STEVE TILSTON AND JEZ LOWE

Seagull Theatre, Pakefield – Saturday 24 November 2018

An intimate performance by two of the UK’s finest songwriters.

Steve Tilston and Jez Lowe – both known across the globe in their own right as brilliant writers, singers and instrumentalists – were first paired together while on a tour of the USA a number of years ago.

They were pleasantly surprised to find how easily their styles of playing worked together and complemented each other’s songs, so they decided that they would continue the collaboration back in the UK.

Both of them are so busy with their own careers (and in Jez’s case with many other collaborative ventures) that it took until 2016 to record their debut CD together.

It was well worth the wait, however, as “The Janus Game", full of great new original joint

compositions, was easily one of the finest folk CDs of 2016.

On 24th November Steve and Jez brought their joint show to the Seagull Theatre in Pakefield (a venue which by the way has now become the place to go for the best in Acoustic based music in north Suffolk) for what was their last show together in 2018.

Both award winners for their song writing (BBC Radio 2 Folk Award for Steve and Sony Academy Award for Jez) they did not disappoint, performing a brilliant set which

featured many songs from “The Janus Game” and also gems from their solo catalogues.

Both their strengths lie in writing thought provoking story songs, many of which are based on true events. Their singing and playing complemented each other perfectly (both on guitar, with Jez also playing mandolin, mandocello and harmonica) and the sound, courtesy of the Seagull’s in-house team, was excellent.

An appreciative and responsive audience went home very happy.

2019 sees a wide range of great Acoustic artists visiting the Seagull, with great folk and bluegrass from the UK, USA, Canada and South Africa.
