“Autumn Folk” - Canopy Theatre, Hungate Church, Beccles Thursday 30th October 2025

Autumn Folk

Following the highly successful “Winter Folk” show held at the same venue last December we present another special seasonal show to raise funds for the Waveney Foodbank organisation, which has 9 distribution Centres and 2 delivery centres across the Waveney Valley in Beccles, Halesworth, Bungay, Harleston, Long Stratton, Diss, Framlingham and Hopton. They provided almost 8000 people across the region with emergency food in 2024.

Experienced local artists will feature original, contemporary and traditional songs for the autumn season in the wonderful setting and excellent acoustics of the Canopy Theatre.

Peter and Jane are a folk duo from Suffolk, who love making music. Their original songs and tunes are influenced by the broad spectrum that is the folk genre and their performances always include a joyful selection of traditional material, arranged to suit the duo’s voices and instruments. These instruments include flute, whistles, guitar, banjo and small pipes.

Whether playing Scottish airs, Irish jigs & reels, or singing bluegrass favourites, traditional ballads or one of their own songs Peter and Jane have an accomplished and thoughtful style centred around close harmony between instruments and voices.

They have performed at many folk festivals including Ely, Bungay, Bury and the Harlequin Fayre, played at folk clubs across the region and supported top Canadian singer/songwriters Dan McKinnon and James Keelaghan when they Performed at the Canopy Theatre in 2024 and 2025 respectively.

Most recent album “The Traveller’s Cloak” was released earlier this year to excellent reviews in FATEA and Songlines magazines. Check out their youtube channel at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UClj0s2I7uFWT4pTiDnIWz7A

Martin Lovett was a member of the 90’s folk-rock band Instant Chaos, and has also performed solo, in a number of duos and collaborated with many artists including Silver Moon, The Lore Breakers, Penny & Stuart Mack, The King Penguins and former world junior harmonica champion Paul Gillings. He sings, plays guitar, tenor guitar, guitarlele and percussion and writes songs (including the Anglian Tales”, project telling stories of real life, myths and legends of East Anglia, which was premiered at the Beccles Charter Day celebrations in 2017).

Martin’s songs cover a wide range of styles from folk to Americana and pop, having performed at many venues across Suffolk including The Marina Theatre and The Seagull Theatre in Lowestoft as well as at fringe events at a number of folk festivals across the country (including the Middlewich Folk & Boat Festival) and Lowestoft’s “Gig on the Green”. He has also supported double FATEA Award-winning singer/songwriter Hannah Scott several times at the Canopy Theatre.

The Goslings – husband and wife Dave & Dimmie – are very active across the folk scene in Suffolk and Norfolk, singing and playing guitar and ukulele, drawing on a wide range of styles. This will be their third appearance at the Canopy Theatre and on this occasion they will be joined by a number of special guests for part of the performance.
